We work with student-athletes throughout the entire recruiting process. We will teach students to be proactive rather than reactive in the recruiting process, understand the NCAA Eligibility Center (which may impact course selection), we will break down NCAA sport-specific recruiting rules.
Building Trusting Relationships
This is a counseling process and we are counselors. We see the first and most important step as creating a trusting relationship between counselor and student/family. In this light we spend a significant amount of time with our students on the front-end of the process simply getting to know one another and building a relationship where we can be trusted to offer the personalized information and act as a guide while helping each student learn to help him/herself.
We will carefully dissect your transcript by year, subject, and course. We will explain the importance of rigor and need for balance between rigor and grades. We have a deep understanding of both the AP and IB curriculums and we will work through potential schedules based on student interests and strengths.
Creation of "THE LIST"
Your list of schools will change over the course of our time together. We will start with an initial list of schools, a list that will allow for the student and family to really explore the different opportunities that are available to you but this initial list will also be focused on institutions that could be solid matches for you, the individual. We build this list based on a series of academic, cultural, and community-based discussions that we have during our time together. We are also sure to cover a wide range of categories with regard to admissions standards.
We will assist in creating a prep and test plan tailored to your strengths as a test-taker. We will walk each student through the maze of the SAT, ACT, and SAT Subject Tests. We will also address the role AP and IB Tests may have on the admissions process. We will fully explain the differences between the admissions tests as well as options for those students who might struggle in this area.
The Application Itself
We will help each student prepare applications for each school to which he/she is applying.
We will guide you through the essay process from brainstorming and free writing to editing final drafts. Most importantly we will support our students as they work to tell their story!
We will walk each student through our specialized mock interview process so that you are fully aware of those things admissions officers or alumni interviewers are seeking in the interview. We will also help each student draft a resume of activities and interests (which may also be used for some college applications) to share with whomever they meet with.
After the acceptances have rolled in, we can help you decide which offer suits you best.
Financial Aid Process
We present a full overview of the financial aid process including offering clear understanding of the different types of aid offered. We can also offer assistance in completing the FAFSA and CSS Profile.
